Echoes of the Future was born in early 2024 as a simple “exercise” to learn how to program with Inform 6 and the PunyInform library. The earliest tweet mentioning it dates back to February of that year.

What started as a small test has grown into a full-fledged adventure. Along the way, the PunyInform community — and especially its author, Fredrik Ramsberg — has helped me more than once, for which I’m truly grateful.

Development was slow, mainly due to the limited time I could dedicate to it, until in recent months I received help from Jade, who took care of testing. Her collaboration was generous and invaluable: she’s fluent in English and has extensive experience with Inform adventures, which encouraged me to stay engaged and give the project the final push.

The game is written in English, as working in the library’s native language made everything easier. However, I know there’s a Spanish translation of PunyInform in development, so I’m not ruling out a future version in my native tongue.

Echoes of the Future is a science fiction text adventure with intimate and existential undertones, structured into three chapters that form a journey through time. The player begins in prehistory but will gradually uncover a deep connection between eras. I hope the story will, at some point, also invite introspection.

The difficulty is progressive, reaching levels I hadn’t explored in previous works. It also includes a scoring system that allows players to complete the game without achieving a perfect score, leaving room for exploration and replayability.

And I want to emphasize this: it is a self-contained work. I felt the need to complete a full story, especially since I already have several open-ended sagas (Antarctica, Room 310…). Here, the player will see the ending — a true ending, one that I hope leaves a mark.

🌌 The game is now available.
If you enjoy retro-style adventures with an existential touch, I warmly invite you to give it a try.
